Position & Size Pre-trade

Max Positions Open

Limit the number of simultaneously open positions.

How It Works

Simple but powerful. PipsGuard counts your open positions and blocks new trades when you hit the limit. This prevents overtrading — one of the most common ways traders blow accounts.

Your plan says "max 3 trades" but you take 12. This rule makes that impossible. Once you hit your configured maximum, no new positions can be opened until existing ones are closed.

Configuration

Parameter Default Description
max_positions 5 Maximum simultaneous open positions

When This Rule Fires

Pre-trade: Counts open positions. Blocks any new trade request when the count equals or exceeds the configured maximum.

Best For

Overtraders Scalpers who need position limits Traders who take 12 trades when their plan says 3

Pro Tips

  • Set this to match your trading plan's maximum position count.
  • For scalpers, 3–5 positions is typical. For swing traders, 2–3.
  • Pair with Max Margin Usage to control both position count and leverage.
  • Combine with Max Floating Loss for comprehensive exposure control.
