How to Connect Your MT5 Account

Before You Start

You'll need the following information:

  • Your MT5 login number (usually 5–8 digits)
  • Your MT5 password (the investor or master password)
  • Your broker's MT5 server name

Where to Find Your MT5 Credentials

In MetaTrader 5 Desktop

Open MT5. Go to File, then Login to Trade Account. Your login number and server are shown here. If you don't remember your password, contact your broker or prop firm.

From Your Broker/Prop Firm

Check the email you received when your account was created. It usually contains your login, password, and server name. Prop firms like FTMO, The5ers, and others send these details after account provisioning.

Connecting in PipsGuard

Go to your PipsGuard dashboard. Click "Add Account." Fill in:

  • Broker name (for your reference)
  • MT5 server address (exactly as shown in MT5)
  • MT5 login number
  • MT5 password

Click "Connect." PipsGuard will set up your connection and authenticate with your broker. Connection status will update in real-time:

Provisioning — Setting up your connection
Connecting — Authenticating with your broker
Connected — Ready to protect your account

Connection Troubleshooting

"Connection Failed" Error

  • Double-check your server name — it must match exactly (e.g., ICMarketsSC-MT5-2 not ICMarkets)
  • Verify your password is correct
  • Ensure your MT5 account is active and not expired
  • Some brokers require the master password (not investor password) for full functionality

"Disconnected" After Initial Connection

Your broker may have restarted their server. PipsGuard auto-reconnects within minutes. If it persists for more than 10 minutes, contact support.

Account Shows "Error" Status

The most common cause is an expired or changed password. Update your credentials in the PipsGuard dashboard.
